1890s Christmas 2007 PDF Print E-mail

From 10:00 until 4:00

We invite you to join us here at the Settlers Museum as we come to the end of a wonderful 20th season!  We know you will love visiting the farmhouse decked out for Christmas as your great grandmother might have done.  We invite you to experience a different take on the Holidays.

  • Music in the Parlor will greet you as you enter the farmhouse just like in old times. Traditional Christmas songs, and music will be played live by several local musicians using traditional instruments. During breaks, feel free to take a turn playing carols on our Victorian pump organ.

  • See the 1890s Farmhouse decorated for Christmas. Using decorations like feathers, fruits, popcorn, paper, and glass, the Farmhouse has been decorated the way it would have been in the late 1800s. Learn about the history of the Christmas Tree, and find out who Kinter Klass was. Let the natural decorations inspire you this Holiday Season.

  • Baked Goods in the Dining Room Sample traditional 1890s Christmas treats baked on our old Majestic Wood Stove. Learn about the traditions of Holiday Baking. You may want to take home a Settlers Recipe Cookbook full of our favorite old fashioned recipes, and tempt your friends and family with true Old Fashioned treats!

  • Hot Chocolate and Apple Cider will be simmering on the woodstove in the kitchen,to help chase away those winter chills. Sample some delicious hot treats. See the old Majestic Stove in use, and appreciate the magnificent fragrance of a true old Fashioned Christmas.
